About Heritage House

When you stay at Heritage House, you can take advantage of our in-house tourist helpdesk. We have lived in Eden for generations, and nobody knows more about the local area than us. Want to know the best hike to take at this time of year? Need us to book you and the family in for a fishing trip? Want to know the best breakfast nearby? We love to help our customers get the best experience from their stay by providing insider tips.

Heritage House the building has a long and colourful local history. The front section of the property is heritage listed and was built in 1903. The area upstairs which now houses our three-bedroom apartment has primarily remained a residence over the years. But the shopfront downstairs has had many different lives over the decades. Heritage House started its life as a general store providing the locals with the essentials, such as gunpowder, whale oils and fur. Since then it has been used as a boat building workshop, grocer, doctor’s surgery and at one point housed the the towns local cafe. We have lovingly restored the original site, and now it serves as the reception area for your stay in Eden.

We love sharing Heritage House and look forward to welcoming you on your next visit.

About Eden

We hear the same comment from almost all of our guests – there is just so much to do in Eden. From fishing, swimming, golfing, bush walking through Ben Boyd National park, antiquing or eating out, Eden has so much to offer for your beach getaway.

Heritage House faces onto Twofold Bay. It is a stunning part of the ocean and is the third deepest natural harbour in the Southern Hemisphere. So it is no surprise that migrating whales love to travel through the bay.

Eden is the number one place to go whale watching in Australia. From September to November every year Humpback  whales frequent the waters just off the coast at Eden, at times coming into Twofold Bay on their southern migration. Other species of whales that also visit this area include Southern Right, Minke and occasionally Blue and Bryde’s. For those staying in our apartments, you will have a front-row seat to watch the whales in the comfort of your room and balcony.

For those in the motel, you are a short walk away from the beach and lookout points. Further out to sea Sperm Whales and the occasional Orca can also be spotted, and we can help book you onto a charter to see them.

But Eden offers much more than Whales. As a historic town of Australia there is much to see and do. An active fishing port, Eden provides some of the freshest and most delicious seafood on offer. You can buy mussels straight off the boat at the Wharf, or purchase fresh  fish and seafood at the Fish    Co-operative . There are multiple fishing charters if you want to go on a fishing adventure to catch your own dinner.

There are many long and short hikes in the area, and we can help recommend the perfect trail. Eden is home to multiple events throughout the year, such as the national Whale Festival held in November each year. There are regular farmers markets for you to stock up on all the local delicacies.
